and just really sit with the fact that when DHS is admitting it is policy to monitor the internet specifically looking for commentary on immigration—while, yes, everybody has an opinion on the situation, it is those people who are connected to immigrant communities, actively organizing around immigration, are immigrants themselves, have been critical of immigration policies, etc who are going to be *especially* targeted.
in other words.
yes, white folks are going to be noticed for having an opinion.
a woman of color who is the child of immigrants and has been consistantly vocal about the way immigrants are treated in the US, US policy on immigration, and has organized offline against the round up of immigrants—is going to be charged. an immigrant who is muslim or/and arab and dares to have an opinion against the wars—is going to be charged. an immigrant who drove to the store without their papers is going to be charged.
there is danger for us all.
but i need there to be recognition that some of us are in danger for simply existing. and some of us are in danger of violence—being disappeared is something that has been practiced on our communities ever since 911, and justified in the name of “safety” of people who are not us. anchor babies are being criminalized and organized against. our citizenship will not save us. immigrants are being imprisoned indefinitely with their children. dark skinned citizens with no immigrants in their families at all are being shipped out of the country and dumped.
there is danger for us all. but i need all of us to really stop and sit with the reality that the danger is more grave for some people. that we’re not all equal in this.
we need to set up a paypal for bail money. i’m being so serious right now.
